BACKGROUND:

Streamlight, a provider of professional flashlights for over 50 years, designs, manufactures, and markets a broad array of professional flashlights in the support of professional law enforcement, military, firefighting, industrial, automotive, and outdoor customers.  

 

Among the many lights launched in 2022 and 2023, Streamlight introduced the BearTrap®, a high-power, rechargeable multifunction work light, and the Syclone®, Jr., an ultra-compact rechargeable work light, both designed to easily illuminate a variety of workspaces, large or small.  

CHALLENGE:

Complement marketing launch efforts by creating greater awareness among industrial and automotive customers through targeted publications and social media influencers.

STRATEGY:

Working with M. NICHOLS Strategic Communications, we distributed a new product press announcement with follow up to current and new media contacts who target the industrial and automotive audience. 

As part of the outreach, we identified new contacts at Popular Mechanics magazine and shared samples of the lights for trial purposes.

RESULT:

  • Streamlight’s BearTrap was named the Best Work Light in Popular Mechanics’ 2022 Gear of the Year line up, and featured in the October, 2022 issue.

  • Streamlight’s Syclone, Jr. won Popular Mechanics’ 2022 Tool Awards for Best Compact Work Light, and featured in the April, 2022 issue.

  • Because the publication reaches more than 581,926 readers per month, the advertising equivalency for the placement of lights in two issues totaled $4.2 million.

    • $2.5 million for the BearTrap

    • $1.7 million for the Syclone Jr.
